  • Endless Lives Demo Track

    Hi,

I’ve uploaded a demo track from my next album, Endless Lives, to my MySpace  (http://myspace.com/rhapsodyinpurple) page. It’s not been finally mixed, EQ’d, mastered, etc but I’d love to hear what people think about it. It’s from the middle of the album and immediately follows another section so it doesn’t fade in very well but hopefully it doesn’t put you off listening in the first few seconds!

One modification that is definitely going to be made before it’s finished will be to change the virtual orchestra I use from Garritan to East West Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra so the strings and brass sounds will improve and be more dynamic.

The album as a whole is about the voyage of one person through the Endless Lives of reincarnation and this excerpt contains themes and motifs that are also present in other places throughout the whole 50 minute piece of music.

I personally neither believe nor disbelieve in reincarnation but having read a few fictional and factual books and articles over the past year I find it an intriguing subject - so much so that it sparked my musical muse.

Musically the album contains many of my normal ways of creating and arranging music but I’ve tried to move outside of my “comfort zone” regarding percussion and rhythm to give the music a more dramatic feel. About 90% of the album is complete so I’m hoping to get it finalised and released for early autumn… fingers crossed!

One last thing, the wonderful image that I’ve used for the track was created by Jamie Woods - please visit his gallery on SXC (http://www.sxc.hu/gallery/digitalemu).

I hope you enjoy the excerpt - please please please tell me what you think!

    Cheers,
    Terry.

  • A bit of news about music… and about Cardiff!

    Hi,

First off… an apology! I’m really bad at blogging… I can’t believe anyone is actually interested in my day to day happenings so I tend to just blog the important news.

    And now… the news!

I’m near to finishing work on my next album - but not as near as I was a few weeks ago. I’ve been working on a long instrumental piece of music (tentatively titled Endless Lives, and before that it was tentatively titled Voyages). The style of the album is much more up-tempo with more use of rhythm/percussion than I’ve had on any previous albums.

Anyway, I’ve got 95% of the music recorded and ready to be mastered but some of the orchestral parts have been built using Garritan Personal Orchestra and although they sound good they’re not good enough! So I’ve gone and ordered East West Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra, and when it arrives I’ll have to unpick the arrangements and put them back together again. I reckon it’ll be worth the extra effort though!

I’m in 2 minds whether or not to post excerpts from the album on MySpace or Reverbnation before making the changes or performing the final mix but I might be persuaded….

On a personal note… just come back from a weekend in Cardiff! Beautiful city with lots to see and do and an amazing number of shops (which I luckily didn’t have to spend too long looking round!).

    Cheers,
    Terry.
