  • Help a poor, Scottish, ginger bloke out?

Posted on September 1st, 2010 PurpleRhapsody No comments

    Hi,

Would ye help oot a pair wee Scottish bloke?

Sorry for the colloquialism… how else can I announce that Faerie Tales & Other Stories is now available to buy without it sounding like I’m asking for a handout… (or begging?)

Anyway, yes my latest album can be bought (download and physical CD!) from CD Baby but you can also still stream the album from my albums page if you’re too canny to part with your hard-earned cash.

    Cheers!

    Terry.

  • Holidays and Faerie Tales news…

Posted on August 11th, 2010 PurpleRhapsody 1 comment

    Greetings fellow internetians,

I completed all the mixing, mastering, artwork, etc in July but didn’t crack on with getting it all sent off for printing, duplication, etc because I was going away on holiday.

I went for a night in London, followed by a cruise from Dover to Barcelona, and then finished it off with 3 nights in Barcelona. I was with my family and we all had a great time – of course now that I’m back I’m keen to get Faerie Tales & Other Stories released… so the good news is that I’ve got my master disc created, barcode purchased, everything registered in various places… and so now I’m just sitting here listening to the master disc before sending it off for replication. And then it’s down to how quickly the postman can deliver things to various places around the world!

I’ll leave you with a picture from my hols… jealous of a piano that I couldn’t play while I was on the cruise…

  • Don Quixote – Tilting at Windmills

Posted on March 22nd, 2010 PurpleRhapsody No comments

Well, I’ve been a bit too busy recently to be spending much time on music :( however I have been trying to expand my musical horizons by integrating electric guitar, full orchestra, classical guitar, flamenco styles, etc into one piece of music.

I think I might have bitten off more than I can chew because I’m finding it very very difficult to get a decent mix. I’ve put a link below to the track on Soundcloud… please please please please comment on what you think about it. Remember that it is a work in progress but any hints, tips, or ideas on how to improve this would be very gratefully received!

  • Too Many New Toys!

Posted on February 26th, 2010 PurpleRhapsody No comments

Well – after wanting the Complete Composers Collection for so long, now that I’ve finally got it I’m kind of overwhelmed! I’m watching tutorial videos, playing with mod wheels, trying out new sounds (choirs, rock guitars, gypsy violins, etc, etc) and now with all this choice how do I pick and choose what gets used in various tracks????

I guess you’ll just have to watch this space – I’ll post snippets as and when I finally get something recorded.

    Cheers,

    Terry.

Some of you may know that I used EWQL Symphonic Orchestra Gold Edition on my last album - well now they’re giving away a free version. It’s cut-down but is not time limited.

Go to http://soundsonline.com/free-orchestra to see the details.

  • Endless Lives now available for download

Posted on December 5th, 2009 PurpleRhapsody 1 comment

    Hi,

It’s been a while but CDBaby have finally got Endless Lives distributed digitally to iTunes (globally) and also amazon in the US and UK.

They’ll also be distributing it to a multitude of other sites so check out your favourite MP3 download store over the next few days to see it it’s there yet.

Of course, the download sites only offer partial previews of tracks so if you want to listen to the whole album for free before you decide whether or not you want to buy it then visit the Purple Rhapsody albums page and listen in the player.

It would obviously make a fantastic Christmas present for friends and family :) and would also just make my Christmas if you bought it!

    Cheers,

    Terry.

  • Remixing a dance track?!?!??!

Posted on October 29th, 2009 PurpleRhapsody No comments

Well… computer music magazine are running a competition in their November issue to remix SmartBomb by Sole Claw (aka Myagi).

I downloaded the original (really isn’t my taste unfortunately) and got all the samples off the CM disk and set to work.

I think I’ll never be a remixer – my inclination was to slow it right down and make it more melodic but that just wasn’t possible. In the end I used some tempo-synced Evolve Mutations sounds to add a bit more atmosphere and life but although I think the end result is okay (and quite different from the original) I have a feeling it isn’t going to win…

Still, I’ll refine it over the next few days and see what happens… I might have a brainwave!!!!

    Yo… peace out!

    Terry.

  • Different Style

Posted on October 23rd, 2009 PurpleRhapsody No comments

    Hi,

Just had some fun mucking about with a slightly different approach to arranging my music.

I usually lay down a piano track with my ideas as a framework and then start to layer things on top - sometimes the piano stays and sometimes it goes. Tonight I started off with more of a ‘pad based’ approach and built it up from there.

The result might not be worth hearing but I had fun anyway!

    Cheers,

    Terry.

  • Positive Week!

Posted on October 17th, 2009 PurpleRhapsody No comments

    Hi,

I really need to keep blogging more, been a few days since my last, but I’ve been very very busy (honest!).

I’ve entered a competition on the East West forums and my track, The Tortoise and the Hare, has been downloaded 118 times!!!!

Also, I’ve had CD Baby confirm that digital distribution has started for my latest album, Endless Lives, so that’ll be on iTunes, Amazon MP3, and other stores soon.

And to top it all off, I’ve just had notification that CD Baby have sold a digital copy of my album too – at this rate the album will have gone platinum just before the sun blows up in 5 million years, but that’s not the point!!!!

Going with my family to see Fantastic Mister Fox at a preview tomorrow so I’m sure that’ll be a great start to next week.

    Cheers,

    Terry.
